Create an account in the Context7 dashboard, then generate an API key from Manage API Keys. Use it as Authorization: Bearer <key> for the REST API and MCP server. For the CLI, the primary setup path is to run ctx7 login; ctx7 setup --api-key <key> is a non-interactive fallback.

For MCP clients, Context7 supports standard OAuth 2.0 with dynamic client registration. A compatible MCP client can self-register automatically via the authorization server metadata at clerk.context7.com/.well-known/oauth-authorization-server and the protected-resource metadata at mcp.context7.com/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource; the user then approves access in the browser.
