Context7 provides version-specific software library documentation and code examples for AI coding agents and developers. It indexes sources such as code repositories, websites, llms.txt files, OpenAPI specs, and Confluence spaces, then serves filtered documentation snippets and search results.
Context7 exposes a REST API at `https://context7.com/api` (with OpenAPI at `https://context7.com/openapi.json`), a public unauthenticated Docs7 browser analytics HTTP endpoint, a hosted MCP server at `https://mcp.context7.com/mcp`, and the `ctx7` CLI.

Create an account in the Context7 dashboard, then generate an API key from Manage API Keys. Use it as Authorization: Bearer <key> for the REST API and MCP server. For the CLI, the primary setup path is to run ctx7 login; ctx7 setup --api-key <key> is a non-interactive fallback.
For MCP clients, Context7 supports standard OAuth 2.0 with dynamic client registration. A compatible MCP client can self-register automatically via the authorization server metadata at clerk.context7.com/.well-known/oauth-authorization-server and the protected-resource metadata at mcp.context7.com/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource; the user then approves access in the browser.
