Flashcards is an open-source spaced-repetition flashcards app with web, iOS, and Android clients plus a self-hosted deployment path. It stores study data in workspaces and supports AI-agent access for reading and modifying cards, decks, media, and package data.
flashcards-open-source-app.com exposes two developer surfaces on its subdomains: a REST external AI-agent API on `api.flashcards-open-source-app.com` and a remote MCP server on `mcp.flashcards-open-source-app.com`; the REST API uses a long-lived agent API key from email OTP bootstrap, while the MCP server supports either OAuth 2.1 with DCR/PKCE or the same key as a Bearer token. It also publishes unauthenticated public snapshot/catalog read endpoints under the same API host.

Start from the discovery docs at API Reference or the discovery endpoint at GET /v1/. Run the email OTP bootstrap by POSTing your email to `/api/agent/send-code`, then POST the returned otpSessionToken, your 8-digit code, and a device label to `/api/agent/verify-code`. Persist the returned long-lived fca_... key. For non-interactive use, the docs recommend exporting it as FLASHCARDS_OPEN_SOURCE_API_KEY.
Point your MCP client at the server URL and approve access in the browser. The server supports OAuth Dynamic Client Registration (RFC 7591), so the client registers itself automatically — no developer-portal app, client_id, or client_secret to create.
