Google Programmable Search Engine lets developers retrieve web or image search results from a configured custom search engine in JSON format. The service uses a Programmable Search Engine ID to scope searches and is being transitioned toward other Google search products.
Programmable Search Engine on customsearch.googleapis.com exposes two REST search surfaces: the Custom Search JSON API and the site-restricted variant, both authenticated with a Google API key passed as the `key` query parameter.

In the Google Cloud Console Credentials page, create or select a project, enable the Custom Search JSON API for that project, then click Create credentials → API key. The Custom Search docs say you also need a Programmable Search Engine ID from the Programmable Search Engine Control Panel.
