In the Cloudflare dashboard, create an API token from Create API token. Choose a template or create a custom token with the minimum required permission groups for the API resources you need. For non-interactive CLI use, Cloudflare docs expose the token via the CLOUDFLARE_API_TOKEN environment variable.

Cloudflare still supports a legacy Global API Key for some API workflows. Retrieve it from Get Global API key (legacy). Requests using this scheme also require your Cloudflare account email address, sent alongside the key in the X-Auth-Email and X-Auth-Key headers.
