For REST calls, authenticate to Google Cloud and obtain an OAuth 2.0 access token as described in Authenticate for using REST. For local CLI-based access, you can sign in with gcloud auth after following Authenticate for the gcloud CLI. The Cloud Asset API discovery document lists the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/cloud-platform scope.

Create and manage an API key in Google Cloud as described in Manage API keys, then use it with Google APIs as described in Use API keys to access APIs. The Cloud Asset API discovery document says the key query parameter is required unless you provide an OAuth 2.0 token.
